Samuel Hamilton Walker was born at Toaping Castle, Prince Georges County, Maryland, on February 24, 1817. In May 1836 he joined the Washington City Volunteers and served in the Florida and Seminole wars. Following the war he and his brother Charles started a business in Iola, Florida. Francis Richard Lubbock (1815-1905) was an influential Texas businessman and politician, who held many public offices during his life, including a term as governor of Texas (161-1863). Baker was a lawyer, editor, politician, Methodist minister in his lifetime. He was the leader of the Texas war party before the Revolution, opposed to the burning of San Felipe during the Revolution, and after the Revolution drew up charges of impeachment against Houston.
